The original title of the King James Version was (get this): THE HOLY
BIBLE! That's what it says on the cover and the original title
page.
That's it - that's what it was called -
because that's what it IS.
Shortly, of course, it
became known as the "Authorized Version" of the Holy Bible because it was
authorized by the crown and it carried authority. It was the English version of
the scriptures, not just one of 300 "versions" like the term implies today.
Charles Spurgeon was the first known to refer to it as the King James
Version.
We often hear the expression, "I believe
the Bible from cover to cover, including the cover." It is usually said kind of
tongue-in-cheek, but really believing the cover is all the difference. The cover
usually says, "HOLY BIBLE". Do you believe that about yours, or is it just a
hopefully accurate translation?
Holy is the root
of such words as whole, hallowed, and health. It connotes wholeness,
completeness, perfection. It has all it should have, nothing extra and nothing
missing. Do you believe that about your
Bible?
Bible is simply "book". It is not just a
manuscript, or a source text, it is a whole, complete, perfect book. Do you
believe that about your Bible? Is it the perfect
book?
Those who adhere to modern versions profess
that there are mistakes in all versions. They do not believe the cover of any
Bible, much less the contents inside.
I believe the Bible from cover to cover, especially the cover. If you
believe the cover, the rest is no trouble.
